Boys and their toys; drones and dirt bikes, and a little Ricky Bobby “If You Ain’t First- You’re Last” race smack talk to keep between hunts entertaining.
Camp shenanigans happen. A little banter between everyone also has the potential to yield a great time when we get an idea in our head. These conversations usually spiral until someone is ballsy enough to put their money where their mouth is and go for broke… in this case Dustin and Doran decided to bet the odds against a little friendly race. Check out the full length on our YouTube Channel here, Doran’s Drone Race.
One such evening there was a joke that a drone could be faster than a dirt bike. So ensued a show down between Doran and Dustin; Drone versus Dirt bike, winner takes all victory. No stranger to backing down to the a challenge, the two speedsters met for the two heats at our northern base camp.
Allegedly, if you take a drone out of GPS mode, it could throw down and make a motorcyclist look like they were standing still. Dustin, not a person to back down to any retort, accepted it. While full batteries and safety were a first, the boys couldn’t help but have a little fun with everyone. Whether or not there’s going to be a Wikipedia site devoted to speed racing between the two machines, we all had a good laugh… and the motorcycles are still the fastest in the west. At least ’round our camp.
Whether it’s goofing around in the evenings, or telling jokes around a campfire while we wait out a storm on the mountain, we are passionate about making sure we do our job well. But, we are also just as passionate about spending time together and having a little fun along the way. If you missed some of the clips we have been posting on our various social media platforms, be sure to head back and check out some of our in between clips from the season. There’s so much more that goes into running a successful area, and learning how to be a ‘Jack of All Trades’ then usually meets the eye. This past Wednesday we shared a take out clip that reaffirmed we are going to keep Kash in the skies, and Dustin hunting sheep and helping clients. A future in satellite technology might be a bit of a stretch at this stage fellas 🙂
For us here at home, the grass is starting to get lush, the spring rains and warmer temperatures are lending to longer days. There’s the promise of a season just around the corner and we are all starting to shake off our winter woolies. The horses are enjoying their spring pasture, and everyone is starting to count down the days of saddling up and heading north.
Hunting with horses and caring for them is a year round operation. There is a quality of care and daily husbandry that goes into our horses so that they can do their best for us when our crew treks deep into the backcountry. This weekend we will be diving into what it actually means to be using horses in the field with Backcountry’s Owen Blackmore. If you’ve ever thought about wanting to come up and experience using horses to hunt, this will give you a look into what goes on to get the horses ready each day of the hunt.
